Having lunch in Sicily

Yesterday I was walking on Palermo’s historical center with a friend. After walking for 2 hours we decided to have lunch. We were on these narrow streets with lots of street markets, but we wanted to sit down, so we started asking the locals for cheap good restaurants. We didn’t have much luck. We wandered more on the narrow streets and ended up in a piazza. That was when the funniest greatest thing happened. A man on his 80’s started to gesticulate. He pointed to us, to his eyes and moved his arms around like he were asking "what are you looking at?" We walked towards him and told him we wanted to eat. He showed us a Tunisian restaurant hidden behind some trees up in a hill. Unfortunately that restaurant was closed. We were going away when we realized he was calling us back. We went up to where he was and explained the restaurant was closed. He asked us it was ok for us to eat panini (italian sandwiches). We said it was ok and he took us to a great panineria. We had a big panino each and a great white wine. This man was very nice, he not only took some time to help us out but while we were walking he asked about us (where we were from, if we were enjoying Sicily, etc) and told us some things about his life (he was born on a house on that very same street we were and had been living there since then for 81 years). I really do enjoy this latin coziness.
