MySQL problems on Debian

I was having 2 problems running MySQL 5.0.51 on Debian Lenny. The first one was a the cryptic "/var/lib/mysqld: error: Sort aborted" a few times a day. The other happened less often was a complain the an index of a table on /tmp/.some-wierd-name as corrupted. This was easily fixed by increasing the tmp partition.
